Privacy Policy

The Cybermentor program (Cybermentor) is committed to protecting the privacy of its volunteers, sponsors, donors, partners, and program participants.

Collection of Your Personal Identifiable Information

In order to manage your participation in the Cybermentor program, we need to collect some personally identifiable information from you. This information may include name, birth date, contact information, references, program interests, special requests, evaluations and feedback.

Use of Your Personally Identifiable Information

Cybermentor uses your personally identifiable information: To register you in the program. To create mentor and mentee databases matching areas of expertise and interests. To be able to communicate with you. To inform you about Cybermentor activities and events that may be of interest to you. To evaluate and improve the program. To comply with legal and insurance requirements. To react to an emergency situation. Information that is anonymized and/or aggregated may be used for planning, promotions and reporting purposes.

Sharing Your Personal Information

We do not rent, sell, or trade our mailing lists or any other personally identifiable information collected for the purposes of the Cybermentor program with third-party companies for their commercial or marketing use. We may share your personally identifiable information with third party service providers to the extent that is reasonably necessary to perform, improve or maintain the Cybermentor service. We may collect and release personally identifiable information and/or non-personally identifiable information if required to do so by law, or in good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with provincial and federal laws, international law or respond to a court order, subpoena, or search warrant or the equivalent, or where in our reasonable belief, an individual’s physical safety may be at risk or threatened. Cybermentor reserves the right to disclose personally identifiable information and/or non-personally identifiable information that Cybermentor believes, in good faith, is appropriate or necessary to enforce our Terms of Service, take precautions against liability, to investigate and defend against any third-party claims or allegations, to assist government enforcement agencies, to protect the security or integrity of the Cybermentor site or our servers, and to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of Cybermentor, our users or others.

Your Choices

You may choose to withdraw from the program at any time by contacting the Cybermentor office. No further contact will be initiated by the Cybermentor office if you withdraw from the program.

Accessing Your Personally Identifiable Information

At any time you may ask to view and/or edit your personally identifiable information by contacting the Cybermentor office. We will verify your identify before discussing and/or changing any personal information.

Retention of Your Information

Upon your withdrawal from the program Cybermentor shall delete your account and remove access to any of your information from others in the program. Cybermentor shall retain indefinitely all your communications within the program, which will only be accessible for legal and/or security purposes.

Security of Your Personal Information

Cybermentor is committed to protecting the security of your personally identifiable information. We use commercially reasonable physical, managerial, and technical safeguards to protect the integrity and security of your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. For example, we store the personal information you provide on computer systems with limited access, which are located in controlled facilities or in locked file cabinets stored in a secure office. However, this is not a guarantee that such information may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical or managerial safeguards. If Cybermentor learns of a security systems breach, then we may attempt to notify you electronically so you can take appropriate protective measures. Cybermentor may post a notice on the Cybermentor site if a security breach occurs.

 

Minors

Protecting the privacy of minors is very important. For that reason, Cybermentor requires parental consent for a minor’s account to be activated, for each school year the minor participates in the program. All of a minor’s personal contact information is kept confidential, and personally identifiable information such as the minor’s first name, grade, interests and personal statement are only shared with the minor’s mentor once they are matched.
